| I am in my mid-forties, married and currently live in rural Shropshire. I graduate in 2008 from the North Wales School of Art & Design with a BA(Hons) in Illustration. I have a chicken called Onion who is a good layer. Once a year I immerse myself in the Welshampton Festival of Fire and devote myself to the joys of making giant puppets, performance and prop making. I enjoy mucking about and in canoes and attempting very easy bouldering or climbing challenges. |

I have been drawing all my life, that I can remember, but have come only lately to illustration. I revere traditional illustrators like Sir John Tenniel, Arthur Rackham and especially Ivan Bilibin. I work in a figurative style which lends itsself well to the methods I use to develop a completed image. I usually develop an image from a pen & ink line drawing through to a digital finish. I am profficient to a high level with Adobe Photoshop CS3, can find my way around Illustrator CS3 and am currently wrestling with Corel Painter X. I am fortunate to have a well furnished home studio facility with all the drawing space, PC processing power and nifty periferals I need to get my work done to a high standard. |

I have had a pretty good experience of college life whilst at NWSAD and have been fortunate enough to have had some recognition of my work during that time. I have a picture in the Association of Illustrators annual Images32 for publication Summer 2008. This has the knock on bonus of getting me a place on the prestigious D&AD talentpool. Two images were selected for use as the official Christmas cards for the North East Wales Institute of Higher Education, being distributed all over the world and leading to an article in the local paper and inclusion in the NEWI 2008-9 prospectus. I am also particularly pleased that I was asked to contribute a Memberzoom interview for the AmateurIllustrator.Com website, a developing community which I have found to be both nurturing and supportive, as well as being replete with very talented illustrators.
June 2008. I am updating this online portfolio and as of today (6/5/08) I will be posting my news on The Inevitable Blog. May 2008. I had my final assessment yesterday at NEWI and as I haven't been referred or failed (I am sure they would have mentioned it...) I can only assume I have passed my degree. Final results are out in June/July so further bulletins as events warrant! Yesterday was also the first day of the Graduate show and the launch was well attended and organised. I received my presentation from Mr & Mrs Evers of the Caldecott Society which included a years membership of the Society with which I am made up. The Show runs for two weeks at the Art School, Regent Street, Wrexham. April 2008. I am pleased to report that the three images for the Caldecott Society competition was awarded joint first place with some excellent work by Olga Solabarietta. These were seen looking framed and swanky at the Liverpool Academy of Arts Gallery from May 6th - 23rd 2008.
